Why 'Q' ?
The name of our software package is actually ‘Quick Presenter’ but people have chosen to refer to it as ‘QPresenter’ and, over time, the name has stuck. However, the abbreviated name has given rise to a certain amount of folklore amongst users, here are a couple of examples…
That the ‘Q’ in QPresenter is shorthand for the word ‘Cue’ and comes from the world of theatre, radio, film and television. Q is often to be found in drama and film scripts, where you will see entries such as QSFX (meaning Cue the Special Effects - sound of breaking glass, explosions etc), QVT (meaning cue the videotape machine) or 'Q Presenter' (meaning you - you’re on!)
Then there are thoses who believe that the ‘Q’ in QPresenter comes from the character in Ian Flemming’s James Bond novels. Q (played by Desmond Llewellyn and more recently John Cleese) is the man who supplies James with all his special equipment - everything from the favourite Walther PPK automatic to the Aston Martin DB7, basically everything of a deadly nature apart from the extra-dry martinis. In his case ‘Q’ is short for ‘Quartermaster’ the man in charge of equipment stores in the British armed forces.
Both explanations are wrong but, being keen on gizmos and gadgets of all kinds, we do hope our ‘Swiss Army knife’ of a presentation tool will appeal to James Bond fans and other cool front-men everywhere.
